Our N/ATION Review:
Pittsburgh’s Two Frays Brewery has been in operation since 2021, opening in the Garfield neighborhood just north of the city by the husband and wife team of Jen and Mike Onofray. With a focus on community and enjoying beers outdoors year-round, Two Frays has also quickly embraced non-alcoholic beer as part of creating an experience that is inclusive for everyone.
The brewery’s You Do You series includes a rotating selection of NA brews, but that’s just part of their commitment to the category. Through a unique partnership with a local AF bottle shop, Open Road Bar, the brewery routinely hosts non-alcoholic themed events at their taproom, including Mod Mondays, in which the brewery is transformed into an AF space for an entire day. We first sampled this non-alcoholic IPA during our visit to the brewery in June, 2024. Made with Centennial, Cascade, Citra and Galaxy hops, this brew is made true to the west coast IPA style. With a brown-golden color it pours into the glass with a nice head of foam, and bright citrusy flavors in the mouthfeel. The piney notes you expect in a WC IPA are also present, but not at all overpowering, for a really well-balanced, but still hoppy beer.
As for where you can find this brew in the wild, for now it’s primarily a Pittsburgh pleasure, often available on draft at the brewery and in to-go pounders, as well as at the Open Road Bar bottle shop.
