Our N/ATION Review:
Our first review in the THC/CBD non-alcoholic beer category, the Bauhaus Tetra Highbrau is a brew that’s worthy of the crown. Created by Minneapolis’ Bauhaus Brew Labs, Highbrau is part of the brewery’s Tetra series of THC/CBD beverages, which also include non-beer sparkling water and seltzer products. The company also has a line of non-alcoholic beverages without any enhancers called ‘Nah’, which includes a Helles Lager and a Guava Sour.
Our first impressions of this non-alcoholic (<.05%) THC/CBD beer were its light, almost burnt-golden color. With minimal foam and a “light brew” descriptor on the can, the optics on the pour seemed to fit the part. Upon first taste, however, we were pleasantly surprised by a slightly fuller flavor profile than we had been expecting, with some definite hops. It’s been said that in beverage form it’s not uncommon to get an earthy or grassy flavor with the presence of THC and/or CBD additives, and in this case, if anything it seems to have added a welcome bitterness component that some non-alcoholic beers can often miss.
In terms of the details, the brew itself comes in at only 45 calories per 12 ounce serving. It includes 5 mg of THC (less than .3% of volume), and 15 mg of CBD, derived from hemp. According to the label, all cannabinoid ingredients were processed in a facility licensed by the state of Minnesota, where cannabis is legal in recreational form. As for where you can get it, given the rapid growth and pace of change in the industry, distribution is still very spotty as of this writing. Best bet is to call your local non-alcoholic bottle shop and see if they can stock it for you.
