Our N/ATION Review:
Created by the Precarious Beer Project based in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, ENAY Brewing is a dedicated non-alcoholic brand line with currently two near beer brews as of this writing - a West Coast IPA called Sun Shifter, and the one we sampled, the Day Ripper, styled after a pilsner. Like many non-alcoholic brewers taking advantage of new innovations in the category, ENAY non-alcoholic beers are made with special yeast strains that product zero-to-limited alcohol during fermentation.
The optics on the “pilsnear” are as you’d expect of the variety, with a medium-body color, and a small but solid head of foam on the pour into a glass. Taste is pretty clean and refreshing, and we could see ourselves crushing a few of these after a long run, or cracking one open in the late afternoon after a busy work day. Taste profile in our estimation is in sync with that of an American pilsner, with some bready notes, subtle sweetness, and malty characteristics. As the brewery states on its own website, the Day Ripper can be consumed for “breakfast, lunch and dinner, without stealing happiness from tomorrow.” We’ll drink to that.
ENAY is available for purchase to the lower 48 states from its websites, and in limited release at a handful of stores on the east coast.
