Our N/ATION Review:
Portland, Maine’s Robin and Alan Lapoint introduced Eighteen Twenty Brewing Company in late 2022. This New England brewery is dedicated to producing a diverse lineup of non-alcoholic craft beers, each brewed with sustainability in mind. From blondes to APAs to stouts, Eighteen Twenty offers a little something for everyone looking for that craft brewed quality without the alcohol.
With flavors that often mirror tastes of coffee, espresso, caramel and even molasses, non-alcoholic stout beers can frequently taste very similar to their full-alcohol counterparts. But they can also fall a little flat as well. Right from the can, we detected aromas of most of the flavors above as we poured into our tasting glass. On the mouthfeel we detected prominent tastes of roasted malt, and a subtle, sweet finish to balance things out. We’d rate this version as ever so slightly on the lighter side of a stout, but with plenty of flavor. We also liked how the flavors continued to show themselves as the liquid began to warm up a little, a telltale sign of a well-made beer.
