GLOSSARY
Cannabis Drink
A beverage infused with cannabis extracts, typically containing cannabinoids like THC or CBD. These drinks are non-alcoholic and offer various effects as an alcohol-alternative, ranging from relaxation to euphoria.
Cannabidiol (CBD)
A non-psychoactive compound found in the cannabis plant. CBD is known for its potential therapeutic benefits, such as reducing anxiety, pain, and inflammation.
Hemp-Derived
Products derived from hemp plants, a type of cannabis plant with low levels of THC. Made federally legal from the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 (better known as the 2018 Farm Bill), hemp-derived beverages with THC (must be less than .3% by dry weight) and CBD have become very common across the United States, particularly where recreational marijuana is not yet legal.
THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol)
The primary psychoactive compound in cannabis, responsible for the "high" feeling associated with marijuana use. THC interacts with the body's endocannabinoid system to produce various effects, including relaxation, euphoria, and altered perception.
CBD
See Cannabidiol (abbreviation).
Terpenes
Aromatic compounds found in cannabis and other plants that contribute to their flavor and aroma. Terpenes can also interact with cannabinoids to enhance their effects, a phenomenon known as the "entourage effect."
Full-Spectrum
Cannabis products that contain a full range of cannabinoids, terpenes, and other plant compounds.
Broad-Spectrum
Cannabis products that contain a range of cannabinoids but have all THC removed.
Isolate
Cannabis products that contain only one specific compound, such as CBD or THC in isolation.
Nanoemulsion
A process that breaks down cannabis compounds into smaller particles, improving their bioavailability and absorption into liquids, important to incorporating into beverages.
