Our N/ATION Review:

Before reviewing a new N/A beer we haven’t yet tried, we’re a sucker for two things. One, good can art that makes the beer stand out right from the jump. And two, a clever name that tells a good story. For Industrial Arts’ Safety Glasses Pilsner, check and check. With its distinctive, almost honeycomb-looking, fully wrapped can design (no stickers here), it stood out on the shelf even in the cavernous Total Wine & More store where we found it. The Pils is part of IA’s Safety Glasses (“Always Think Safety First!”) line of N/A beers that also includes an IPA, and is a play on the industrial names the brewery’s many leaded counterparts go by.

While perhaps just a happy coincidence, the honeycomb theme seems to continue into the beer color, with a hazy, light golden hue that at quick glance could also pass for a pint-shaped jar of honey. It has an inviting, citrusy aroma that carries into the first sip, with just a subtle hint of sour or tartness, although likely not enough to turn off those who may generally avoid sours. This pilsner is easy-drinking through and through, with a clean refreshing finish and minimal bitterness. A great selection whether you’re heading to the beach, curling up in a blanket to binge watch Netflix, or perhaps preparing to operate power tools — just don’t forget to wear those goggles if the latter.

So where can you find Safety Glasses Pils in the wild? We found ours in a Charlotte (NC) area Total Wine & More, available in a six-pack. If you can’t find it on a menu or in a beer store near you, you can also purchase directly from their website.
